Imperial’s Jarvis completes comeback with top honor

- BY KARINA LOPEZ Sports Writer

Last year, Britney Jarvis’ junior basketball season was cut short after she tore her ACL on Jan. 9. Jarvis did not get cleared for action until late September and promptly returned to the court for the second half of her final volleyball season.

The clearance gave Jarvis just enough time to prepare for her senior basketball season and in her comeback she helped Imperial High open the season with a first-place finish in the Coachella Valley Tournament and even earned tournament MVP honors.

Along with a solid Tiger squad, Jarvis helped Imperial to a remarkable overall record of 27-2, the team’s 10th-consecutive Desert League title and a quarterfinals appearance in the CIF-San Diego Section Div. I playoffs.

For her efforts, Jarvis earned Desert League Player of the Year honors. This season, Jarvis averaged 15.3 points and 3.3 steals per game and finished with a total of 445 points.

Equally as impressive was Jarvis’ teammate’s and fellow Desert League First Team selectee Keren Hogue’s senior performance.

Hogue averaged 8.1 points, 7.0 assists, 5.1 rebounds and 5.2 steals per game for the Tigers and accumulated more than 1,000 career-points.

Hogue also led Imperial with two triple-doubles and was second on the team in double-doubles with five.

Joining the two Tigers on the First Team were Holtville High’s Jasmine Ponce and Calipatria High’s Jackie Vega.

Ponce led the Vikings with 8.3 points per game, served as the team’s starting point guard and totaled 199 points in her junior season.

Vega also played a vital role for the Hornets this year, helping the team to the semifinals of the CIF San Diego Section Div. V playoffs.

Rounding out the Desert League’s First Team was Ty Daniels of Palo Verde Valley. Daniels averaged 13.4 points per game and caused problems for opponents in the paint all year.
