DAVID RAMOS MEZA June 7, 1932 - May 1, 2017

David Meza, 84, of El Centro passed away on May 1, 2017 at El Centro Regional Medical Center.

David Ramos Meza attended McCabe and Dool Elementary Schools and graduated from Calexico High School in 1951. He played the trombone with the Calexico High School band and was a right/left guard on the football team. After graduating from high school, he went on to serve in the Army National Guard and received an Honorable Discharge in 1952.

For a short time, he owned a snack wagon and had his own business called D&D Warehouse in Calexico. For 39 years, David worked as a truck driver for System 99 and Viking. He was most passionate about being a line driver in which he made deliveries as far as Los Angeles and Simi Valley. He was an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus, an active member of the 20-30 Club, and a parishione­r in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Calexico. He was avidly involved in the Cursillo Movement and after moving to El Centro, he attended and was a devout member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. David married his wife Fidelia in 1956, and she blessed him with 9 beautiful children. His family particular­ly remembers him enjoying his passions and hobbies such as fishing, dancing, singing, playing the guitar, camping, and barbecuing. He dearly loved his wife, children, and grandchild­ren and was always excited to attend their sporting events and school functions. He instilled a passion for education, the value of hard work, and the importance of faith in God in both his children and grandchild­ren. David was always known by his family and friends as being honest, generous, and hard-working, and his advice “lectures” were always geared to encourage and foster the importance of becoming independen­t and successful individual­s.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Ozuna Meza and Leonides Meza; brothers, Frankie Meza, Refugio Meza, Miguel Meza, and Andres Meza; sisters, Victoria Mansera and Apolonia Meza; and his son, John Meza.

He leaves behind his wife of 61 years, Fidelia H. Meza; sons, Ernest (Yolanda) Meza, Victor (Rosa) Meza, Steven (Michelle) Meza, William Meza; daughters, Martha Meza Ramirez, Linda (Jose) Roman, Annie (Brian) Cardoza, and Susan (Robert) Davila; 22 grandchild­ren, 8 greatgrand­children, and 2 great- great- grandchild­ren.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 6 p.m. with Rosary being said at 7 p.m. at Hems Brothers Mortuary, El Centro, CA. Service will be held on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at 9 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church and will be officiated by Father Emmanuel. A private interment ceremony will be held at a later date.

ROBERT LEE WALKER July 7, 1954 - Apr. 26, 2017

Robert Walker, 62, of Brawley passed away on April 26, 2017.

Robert Lee Walker (Bobby) was born in Brawley on July 7, 1954. He was 1 of 13 born to Eula Mae and Rayburn Walker Sr. of Calipatria, CA. He attended old Bonita, Fremont and graduated from Calipatria High School. He played basketball all four years. After graduating he had numerous jobs in the Valley.

He was owner and driver of his trucking business for about three years. His brother, Lee Roy was one of his drivers. He drove for Gordon Trucking Co. out of Inland Empire for many years. He was head driver for Wildcat Transporta­tion. He’s been driving for over 35 years. In 1982 he met and married Celes Butler, from that union they had two children, son Fabian and daughter Tiffani. He and his wife Celes had 19 foster children with the Imperial County Foster Care System. Robert was a great man. He was a truly wonderful Dad and Grandpa. He loved his children and Grandchild­ren so very much. He loved his granddaugh­ter Haylen so much. He was a great brother always had us laughing and don’t forget he was a great cousin. He loved every- one and everyone loved him back. He had jokes. Everyone knew Robert was a Laker fan. He loved the Lakers. He couldn’t wait to get home to see them play. He looked forward to game night. But when playoffs started, if a player made a mistake, his favorite line was “He makes me sick.” He loved to cook and knew how to cook. He also liked western movies, the older the better.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Eula Mae and Rayburn Walker Sr.; brother, Ellis and sister, Della.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory his son, Fabian; his daughter, Tiffani (Marcello) and three grandchild­ren, Haylen, Marcello L., Kaia; sisters, Ellen, Virginia, Joyce and Carolyn; brothers, Rayburn Jr., Clarence, Ralph, Lee Roy, Donald, and Dennis. His friend, Teena Heron and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and all of his family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Frye Chapel and Mortuary in Brawley from 10 a.m. and service at 12 p.m. Burial will immediatel­y follow at Riverview Cemetery in Brawley.

CHESTER BEN BURCHETT Jan. 30, 1922 - Apr. 4, 2017

Chester Ben Burchett, 95, died April 4, 2017, at his home in Santa Maria, California.

Chester was born January 30, 1922, in Fayettevil­le, Arkansas.

He enjoyed bowling and playing card games with his family and friends. He loved to crack jokes and make people laugh. One of his most recent favorite past times was to keep his mind active by learning random pieces of trivia via the internet.

Chester’s wife Bernadine Burchett passed in 2007. They were married for 64 years and had two sons, Gary and Jerre. Gary Burchett passed in 1970 by a tragic auto accident. The other son, Dr. Jerre Burchett passed in 1984 by a tragic hunting accident. He loved his family and was a proud father.

He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Paula Burchett-Bagby; brother, Dean Burchett; sisters, Reba Smith and Jean Burchett; four grand children, Shannon Burchett-Bryant, Amy Burchett, Rebecca Burchett-Morgan, and Jeremy Burchett; three great-grandchild­ren, Rakel Bryant, Dominic Bryant and newly born Benedict Morgan.

Memorial service was held at the Greenlawn Memorial Park in San Diego, California on Good Friday, April 14, 2017. Family from all over Southern California gathered in remembranc­e. At the opening of the service, Chester was given an honorable Flag Folding Ceremony by the United States Air Force for his military service.

He lived a full life and would want everyone to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Even a life of 95 years is short compared to eternity.

MARGARITA D. TRUJILLO Oct. 13, 1935 - May. 2, 2017

Margarita D. Trujillo, a long-time resident of Brawley, California died Tuesday, May 2, 2017 in her own home, surrounded by her husband of 55 years and her children. She was born in Mexico City in October of 1935.

She was a pious member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church for many years and Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. After her religion she was totally devoted to her family. Margarita D. Trujillo was a loving mother, wife and friend who will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 6 to 9 p.m. at Frye Chapel and Mortuary in Brawley with Rosary being said at 7 p.m. Mass will commence at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at St. Margaret Mary Church and will be officiated by Father Ed Horning. Burial will immediatel­y follow at Riverview Cemetery in Brawley.

She is survived by her husband, James F. Trujillo; her three children, Frank Trujillo, Liliana T. Hanson, Harlinda Tan; her 8 grandsons, David Li Trujillo, Mikael Hanson, Abraham Hanson, Adam Hanson, Daniel Hanson, Isaac Hanson, Samuel Tan, Simon Tan all of whom she loved dearly; and finally, other close family members as well as many good friends.

MARGARET “MARGIE” CANNON Jan. 30, 1922 - May 2, 2017

Margaret “Margie” Cannon passed away on May 2, 2017 in Albuquerqu­e, New Mexico.

She was born in Yellville, Arkansas on January 30, 1922. She later moved to California with her mother and two sisters and graduated from high school in Redding, California. She met Donald Cannon while he was a student at UC Davis and the two married on October 14, 1950, moving to the Imperial Valley shortly thereafter. They made their home in Brawley where they raised four children. After her husband passed away and her children were raised, Margie returned to school and received her RN Degree from Imperial Valley College in 1980.

Margie cherished being a grandmothe­r and loved spending time with her grandchild­ren who adored her. She enjoyed sewing, reading, and grew flowers and vegetables in her garden every spring while maintainin­g a close circle of lifelong friends.

Margie was preceded in death by her husband Don; her beloved daughter, Jeanne; her infant grandson John Mitchell Smithers; and her sisters, Dorothy and Elaine.

Margie is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Patty Cannon of Brawley, Josh and Cathie Cannon of Albuquerqu­e, and daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and Roy Walker of Westmorlan­d; her grandchild­ren, Kylee and Katy Cannon, Abby Smithers Carter and husband Robert, Allyn Smithers, Natalie Cannon, and Cannon and Alec Walker. She was able to meet her first great-grandchild Weston Carter in March. She will always be in our hearts.

Funeral service will be private.

JOSEPH “JOE” NUNEMACHER May 20, 1979 - Apr. 20, 2017

Joseph “Joe” Nunemacher, 37, of El Centro, CA passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2017.

Joe was born on May 20, 1979 in Flagstaff, AZ. His smile was infectious. Joseph, known by most as “Joe” was the owner of Joe’s Powerhouse located in El Centro. You could not sneak past the entrance without receiving his trademark smile. He loved his business, but more important to him, he loved people. Joe made it his mission in life to acknowledg­e every person, including strangers, and make sure they knew their value, and of course, offer a smile. He was the best son, brother, grandson, nephew, fiance and friend, and he gave the best of hugs. He will truly be missed by all.

Joe was preceded in death by his grandfathe­r, Galdino Cruz and his grandmothe­r, Carolina Cruz.

He is survived by his parents, Charles and Maria Elena of Westmorlan­d, CA; sister, Caroline Nunemacher Silva; brothers, Chuck and Jarrett of Lake Havasu, AZ, Robert of Greenwich, CT and Jason of Glendale, AZ.

BILL CARVER Nov. 5, 1942 - Apr. 30, 2017

Bill Carver finished his race and went to be with his beloved Savior on April 30, 2017. We rejoice in his life, his faith, his love, and his joy. He was a faithful husband, father, and grandfathe­r, but most of all, he will be remembered for his great love for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Bill was born on November 5, 1942 in Brawley, CA. Bill was a C.P.A. with Hutchinson and Bloodgood until his retirement in 2003.

He is survived by his wife, Jackie Carver; daughters, Michele (Sal) Campos, Christy Carver; grandchild­ren, Nicole, Micah, Matthew Campos; sister, Darlene (Michael) Ormand.

ALMA SIAS Sept. 12, 1955 - Apr. 30, 2017

Alma Sias, 61, of Calexico passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2017 of natural causes in San Diego.

She was born September 12, 1955 in Cananea, Sonora and later married Larry Sias on December 24, 1991 in Yuma, AZ. Alma worked as a cosmetolog­ist, stayed at home mom for a good while, and graduated from IVC and SDSU majoring in Psychology and minor in Spanish and later volunteere­d at ECRMC. Her greatest accomplish­ment was being a grandma.

She was preceded in death by her dad, Juan Rodriguez; sons, Jesus Emmanuel Morga, Francisco Javier Sias.

Alma is survived by her husband, Larry Sias; son, Armando (Adriana) of Salinas, CA; daughters, April Sias of Calexico, Melissa Cordova of El Centro and Monica Sias of Calexico; grandkids, Armando, Alexsis and Angel of Salinas, CA, Joseph and Eli of El Centro; mother, Maria “Lulu”; brothers, Francisco and Tony and all her adopted children.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at 7 to 9 p.m. at Hems Brothers Mortuary in El Centro. Celebratio­n of Life will be held on Friday, May 12, 2017 at 2 p.m. and will be held at First Southern Baptist 401 W. 14th St. in Imperial and will be officiated by Pastor Matt Mincher.
