Arson fire to arrest leads

On Monday evening, the El Centro and Imperial County Fire Department extinguish­ed a second-alarm structure fire in the 500 block of Orange Avenue, stated an El Centro Fire Department press release.

No injuries to civilians or firefighte­rs were reported.

El Centro Fire Department investigat­ors concluded the fire to be a result of arson.

El Centro Police Department’s call logs on Tuesday indicate an 18-year-old El Centro resident was taken into custody in connection to the fire.

Kaden D. Leal was arrested in suspicion of arson by El Centro police officers on Monday night in the 500 block of Orange Avenue and held on a $75,000 bond, stated the call logs and county sheriff’s arrest logs.

The El Centro Fire Department responded at 6:34 p.m. and found the residence on Orange Avenue with heavy smoke coming from the doors and attic.

The occupant in the home was found outside the home uninjured, stated the press release.

An additional engine company from Imperial County Fire Department was requested. Firefighte­rs performed an aggressive fire attack and were able to quickly extinguish the fire.

Fire crews protected the surroundin­g residences and contained the fire to the initial residence involved, stated the press release.

Gold Cross Ambulance, Imperial Irrigation District and SoCal Gas also assisted on scene. The Imperial County Chapter of the Red Cross assisted with the displaced occupant.
