Teams make CIF playoffs
Following the completion of the regular softball season last week, the CIF-San Diego Section announced the participants of this year’s playoffs following a seeding meeting Saturday morning.
This year, a total of five Imperial Valley high schools will be advancing to CIF-SDS action including Imperial, Calexico, Brawley, Central and Calipatria highs.
Imperial and Calexico advanced to the Div. I tourney, Brawley to Div. II, Central to Div. III and Calipatria to Division IV.
The co-Imperial Valley League champion Tigers earned the No. 9 seed in the 12-team tourney and will travel to face No. 8 Westview on Tuesday.
Imperial finished with a 17-11 overall and 10-2 IVL record and will face a Wolverine squad that went 5-5 in Palomar League action and have an 1114 overall mark.
Also in Div. I the Bulldogs earned the No. 11 seed and will also travel on Tuesday to face the No. 6 Carlsbad Lancers.
Calexico will go into the game with an overall mark of 14-11-1 and league mark of 8-4, while the Avocado West Lancers finished with an 8-2 record in league and are 16-9 overall.
In Div. II, the co-IVL champs of Brawley will host San Pasqual of Escondido in a playin game scheduled for Monday in Brawley.
The Wildcats go in with a 1314 overall mark and 10-2 finish in IVL.
The Golden Eagles will come to the Valley with an overall record of 10-18 and a 4-4 finish in Valley League play.
In Div. III, the Spartans drew the No. 7 seed and earned a home game scheduled for Tuesday. The Spartans (14-15, 5-7 IVL) will host No. 10 La Jolla Country Day.
The Torres compete in the Coastal League and will come in with an overall mark of 13-8 and league mark of 8-4.
Rounding out this year’s playoff teams is Calipatria High, who drew the No. 8 seed in Div. IV.
The Hornets advanced to the semifinals last season and have a majority of their squad back this year.
Calipatria went a perfect 8-0 in Manzanita League action and 13-7 overall and will host No. 9 Escondido Charter on Tuesday.
The White Tigers are also in the Coastal League, like the Spartans’ opponents, and will play Calipatria with an overall record of 13-10 and league record of 4-8.
