Weekend voting offered for IID election.

- Local & Region

Voters who reside within the Imperial Irrigation District Division 1 boundaries will have the opportunity to vote during the weekend prior to the June 6 election day.

Having the option to vote during the weekend gives voters an additional option to make their vote count. Voting in the weekend prior to the election was offered during both the June and November elections of 2016.

Voters interested in casting their ballot early can do so on June 3-4 at the Registrar of Voters Office located at the Imperial County Administration Center located at 940 W. Main St., Suite 209 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Approximately 12,000 voters within Division 1 territory which cover Westmorland, the southern portion of Brawley, most of El Centro will be eligible to vote.

During a Board of Supervisors meeting earlier this month, Registrar of Voters Debra Porter said that for this special election there will be a total of 10 polling sites and an additional 29 mail precincts throughout IID Division 1 territory.

Six thousand ballots were mailed May 8. Vote by mail ballots can be dropped off at the Registrar of Voters office Monday through Friday during regular business hours as well as during the weekend voting on June 3-4.

Voters can also turn in their vote by mail ballots at El Centro city hall, Brawley city hall and Westmorland city hall and at the polling precincts on Election Day on June 6.

The four candidates seeking the open position are former businessman Tony Gallegos, teacher Blake Miles, current Imperial Community College District Trustee Juanita Salas and retired businessman John Edgar “Ed” Snively.

The position became vacant in January after former board member Matt Dessert left the board after he was appointed as the new Air Pollution Control Officer by the Imperial County Board of Supervisors for that position last December.
