Valley readies to honor, remember fallen heroes

On Monday, different county cities will hold different events to commemorat­e Memorial Day to pay their respects to those who have paid the ultimate price in the protection and preservati­on of freedom. These are some of the options available in the Valley to commemorat­e and pay tribute to the armed forces:

Calexico

Calexico American Legion Post No. 90, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Veterans will commemorat­e the fallen heroes at Mountain View Cemetery located at 895 Scaroni Road, where they’ll place flags on all veterans’ tombs starting at 6 a.m., a breakfast will follow at 8 a.m. and festivitie­s will conclude with a formal ceremony at 10 a.m.

El Centro

Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion Post No. 25 will host the festivitie­s for the cities of El Centro and Imperial. A breakfast will be hosted by the American Legion Post No. 25 at 8 a.m. and will be followed by a ceremony at 9 a.m. at the Evergreen Ceremony located at 201 E. Gillett Road in El Centro

Brawley

American Legion Post No. 60 will hold their Memorial Day service at the Riverview Cemetery located at 4700 Hovley Road starting at 9 a.m.

Holtville

The city of Holtville in conjunctio­n with American Legion & American Legion Auxiliary Bradley Keffer Post 138 will hold a morning flag ceremony in Holt Park that features a memorial to Holtville’s citizens lost in service to their country. The solemn commemorat­ion will feature memorializ­ing the servicemen listed on the monument, speeches and a flag presentati­on ceremony for all of the service branches and, of course, the American flag starting at 8:30 a.m. Holt Park is located at 121 W. Fifth St., Holtville.
