All-IVL boys’ basketball teams released
This year’s Imperial Valley League boys’ basketball title was won by Brawley Union High after the Wildcats finished league play with a perfect record of 6-0.
Brawley finished the season with an overall record of 27-8, captured a CIF-San Diego Section Div. IV title and made it to the quarterfinals of the CIF state tourney.
Helping the Wildcats to the historic season was senior starter Adalberto Lopez.
Lopez was the team’s and the IVL’s leading scorer earning him All-IVL First Team and Player of the Year honors.
The four-year varsity letter winner averaged 18.4 points per game, 2.8 steals per game, 6.5 rebounds per game and 2.8 steals for Brawley this year.
Overall, Lopez tallied five double-doubles and amassed 606 points, 214 rebounds and 92 assists and steals.
Joining Lopez on the All-IVL First Team list is teammate Isaiah Bustamante. Like Lopez, Bustamante also led the league in a category including blocks per game with 2.9.
The Wildcat senior averaged 7.7 rebounds per game, 9.9 points per game and has six double-doubles this season.
For Calexico High, Coby Robinson earned the team’s First-Team spot.
This is Robinson’s second time being named to the First Team and the senior helped the Bulldogs to an overall record of 13-15. Robinson averaged a second-best 15.7 points per game in league action and was also in the top five for rebounds, steals and blocks per game.
The senior forward finished the year with 423 points, 189 rebounds, 39 assists, 55 blocks and 47 steals.
For Southwest High, Eric Pompa earned the First Team honor for the Eagles that finished the year with a 19-13 overall record and a semifinal appearance in the CIF-SDS Div. IV tourney.
Pompa averaged 13.1 points, 3.1 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game this year.
The junior Eagle totaled 366 points this season with 88 assists and 55 steals.
Rounding out the First Team selectees was Central Union High’s Diego Navarro.
Navarro, a junior, took over point guard responsibilities for the Spartans this season and saw them to a 13-14 overall record.
