Edwina Seeger 93, El Centro

June 18, 1936 - May 26, 2017

Alfredo Negrete Alvarado, Sr., 80, known affectionately as “V-8” by his closest friends passed away peacefully on Friday, May 26, 2017.

He was born June 18, 1936 in Michoacán, Mexico to Agapito Negrete and Maria Alvarado. Alfredo worked as a Ranch Hand and supported activists alongside Cesar Chavez before moving to El Centro in 1973 where he became a welder for Douthitt Steel Supply and Fabric and later Heineke G.W. & Company retiring in 2004.

Alfredo truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; camping, hunting, never having missed an opening season, singing Mariachi music, enjoying a good dessert or two, and spending time with his family. Alfredo loved building things and some of the structures that he helped build still stand throughout the Imperial Valley as a testament to his work ethic. His craftsmanship was second only to his devotion to his family and his proudest accomplishment in life was the professional success of his three children and grandchildren. Alfredo greeted those around him with a warm smile and gifted us all with his deep baritone and melodic voice.

He is survived by his wife, Silvia Negrete, of 53 years; his three children Sylvia Negrete, M.D., Angelica Shanta, and Alfredo Negrete, Jr., M.D., and seven adoring grandchildren, Michael Charles Esparza, Omar A. Shanta, Adam A. Shanta, Estevan Alejandro Negrete, Alexander Christian Esparza, Alexis Noelle Negrete and Liliana Angelica Esparza.

Family, friends, and others whose lives Alfredo touched are invited to the Hems Brothers Mortuary located at 1975 S. 4th Street in El Centro, CA on Friday, June 9, 2017 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. with Rosary at 7:00 p.m. to reminisce, grieve, support each other and, of course honor Alfredo’s legacy of hard work and dedication to his family. Mass will be on held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church located at 1535 E. Brighton Ave. in El Centro, CA at 7:30 a.m. with the funeral procession to follow immediately at Evergreen Cemetery located at 201 E. Gillett St. in El Centro, CA.
