Lawmaker announces water hearings.
A state lawmaker announced a series of statewide hearings to address water issues.
Assemblyman Marco Corona, with the Institutional Revolutionary Party, said the hearings seek to analyze the status of water in Baja California.
The hearings will include participation of residents, experts, public officials and stakeholders.
Corona, who chairs the Energy and Water Resources Commission, said the Mexicali hearing has been scheduled for 11 a.m. June 27 at Universidad Xochicalco in eastern Mexicali and just south of the East Port of Entry.
“We are making every effort to hold these hearings in a transparent manner by involving water experts who can help us know the status we are living in the state,” Corona said. “Through residents we will have the opportunity to have a single, unique document that can become the state new Water Law.”
The list of speakers invited to the hearings include Dr. Alfonso Cortez of the Northern Border College, Dr. Jesus Roman Calleros with the Agricultural Science Institute of the Autonomous University of Baja California, Dr. Helena Caeri Baca Leon, national coordinator of Water for All Movement, biologist and environmental consultant Sergio Javier Mata Ugalde and Dr. Elena Burns, coordinator for Sustainability f the Metropolitan University.
Corona said the list of authorities include representatives from the State Water Commission, the National Water Commission and the International Water and Boundaries Commission.
The lawmaker said some of the topics to be addressed during the hearings include climate change, sustainable development, water reuse and regulations.
