Two Holtville residents were arrested Tuesday night in Imperial for allegedly shooting at a vehicle and an occupied house in the 500 block of Sunflower Way early Tuesday morning, the city of Imperial reported.

Skye Acosta, 24, and Ami Ulibarri, 23, were taken into custody at about 6 p.m. during a traffic stop on Aten Boulevard east of Dogwood Road by Imperial police, who had previously identified the pair as possible suspects in the shooting, a press release from the Imperial City Manager’s Office stated.

Imperial police had initially been notified at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday by the resident of the home in question that they had awakened to allegedly find bullet holes in a vehicle parked in the driveway, the press release stated.

The resident had reportedly heard gunshots early Tuesday morning but had not noted any signs of suspicious activity upon looking outside of the residence, the press release stated.

Further investigation allegedly revealed spent bullet casings at the scene, bullet holes in the home as well as identified an undisclosed number of possible suspects, the press release stated.

As the investigation was underway, an Imperial police officer observed Acosta and Ulibarri driving through the city, prompting a traffic stop, as well as a subsequent search of Acosta’s Holtville residence, where a semi-automatic handgun and additional evidence was allegedly discovered, the press release stated.

Acosta was booked into county jail on suspicion of shooting into an inhabited dwelling, shooting at a vehicle and making criminal threats, according to the county Sheriff’s Office arrest records.

He was being held on a $250,000 bond.

Ubarri was booked into county jail for suspicion of shooting at an inhabited dwelling, shooting at a vehicle, conspiracy and aiding and abetting, the Imperial police call logs stated.

The investigation is still active and ongoing. Anyone with additional information regarding this incident is urged to contact the Imperial Police Department Investigations Unit at 760- 355-4329.
