Golf club robbed at course.

-

Players and golf club members were robbed Wednesday evening while partying to celebrate Father’s Day at Campestre Golf Club in southern Mexicali.

Club President Octavio Alcántar said in social media the incident occurred around 10 p.m. when three armed individuals arrived at the site and punched a security guard at the entrance.

The suspects then went to the 18th hole, where around 20 members and employees gathered for a celebration.

The suspects brandished firearms, punched one of the club members and an employee.

Alcántar said suspects attempted to take hostage one of the members, who was eventually left in the parking lot.

The suspects took wallets, watches, money, vehicle keys from all those present and attempted to flee in a vehicle owned by one of the victims.

Mexicali’s Department of Public Safety informed a suspect was arrested Wednesday at 11:15 p.m.

The suspect was identified as Ramiro “Doe,” 38.

The individual was found by police officers in a white 2012 Dodge Ram and in possession of 1,120 pesos, two golden chains and a watch allegedly robbed at the club.

Authorities also found a black truck abandoned close to the robbery with an imitation gun inside.

Mexicali Police Chief Alonso Méndez said authorities think the suspects live near the golf club.

The alleged robbers entered the club through the golf field, Méndez said.
