Pearson Brothers get approval

with new bubbly on classic formula

Local wine maker, Pearson Brothers Winery, wants as many people as possible to enjoy their new sparkling wine and is focusing efforts to have it stores by January.

Licensed locally since 2014, the winery, launched by Michael and Dale Pearson, has just won federal approval of their third formula on wine that contains no grapes or fruit juice. Their third new product Perduret is taken from the family crest meaning, integrity endures.

“We’re the only people who currently make Saccharo wine,” said Dale. “My brother Michael came up with the original formula in 2010. It’s our original Pearson Brothers Private Reserve.”

Saccharo is the Latin term, from sugar. The all natural way of creating a fermentable liquid uses wildflower honey from Imperial Valley, Valencia oranges and Indonesian vanilla. A second formula, Ginseng Saccharo, uses the root of ginseng root infused into the wine with a different blend of ingredients but based on the original Private Reserve formula.

That new revolutionary wine had a run of over 24,000 bottles using a blend of agricultural sugars. They have a distributor in Colorado but market locally through Imperial’s Claypool Distributing Co. Valley markets, Lucky, Vons and Albertsons stocks their product. Yet their wine is now available in 50 different locations and customers can search online: pearson brothers winery. com.

“Our original idea was to create a wine that was delicious as a grape wine but controlled better by our altering the recipe with certain ingredients,” said Dale. “If we want more acidity, we add orange, or make it smoother more vanilla or if we desire more sweetness add wildflower honey.”

Dale remarked the formula has comparable sweetness to a Riesling, only with more honey, citrus and vanilla complexities. The idea was to keep any one ingredient from standing out, yet have layers of flavor to achieve an overall balance.

It is a good all-around wine people can drink chilled or cook with it. It also goes well with seafood, chicken or spicy Asian or Mexican cuisine.

It is a great feeling to realize how they were able to expand on an original idea and come up with two more products, remarked Dale. They are still basically a two-man operation in their 5,000 square foot facility in downtown Imperial and do everything but the distributing.

“We really appreciate everything everybody has done to support us in Imperial County,” said Dale.
