Gas prices drop slightly in Valley
According to GasBuddy, the nation is set to see the lowest average gas price since 2005 heading into Fourth of July.
Locally, the Valley won’t see such a big difference.
GasBuddy is a crowdsourced smartphone app that helps users find closest stations based on gas price or distance.
According to the app’s website, drivers will pay an average of $2.21 per gallon this weekend for regular gas, well under the 10year average of $3.14. In 2005, the nation average was $2.20, with the previous low mark set last year at $2.27.
Although the gas prices are a record low for the nation, the price varies significantly from state to state.
California continues to be among the states with the highest gasoline prices in the nation.
The average price in the Imperial County is $2.771 with Costco leading all gasoline stations with a current price of $2.49 a gallon for regular gasoline – all prices reported are regular.
Some stations have a price of $3.19.
This past week, the county gas price saw an average decrease of $0.043 — $0.117 in the past month.
However, today’s gas price is $0.228 higher than it was six months ago. A year ago, it was only $0.004 higher than it is now. In the state, the average is $2.93 with the lowest price reported at $2.45.
