QThere is now a splash pad at Alyce Gereaux Park in Brawley, also known as the Oakley Elementary School park. I have a concern because I know there is a child predator that resides in that area. There will be little girls in bathing suits trying to enjoy the park, that raised a major red flag for me and should for all parents and citizens of Brawley and surrounding areas if they plan to visit this park. I want to know what measure the city of Brawley has taken to suppress this individual from trying to attempt to make contact with children at the park. — Concerned Brawley Citizen
ACalifornia’s Megan Law is a website that lists all registered sexual offenders in the state, including the Imperial County. While searching through the website www. meganslaw.ca.gov, we found there is no registered sexual offender living near the park. A street was originally included in this PROBE question, however, the Imperial Valley Press omitted it because it cannot verify there is a registered sexual offender on that street. We also spoke to Deborah D. Owen, the Assistant District Attorney with the DA’s office, and she also said the DA’s office could not verify a registered sexual offender lives in that area.
However, that doesn’t mean one isn’t there. Owen said if you have information that a sexual offender lives there, then it could mean that he is violating his registration status. As a fact to point out, law enforcement has more detailed information regarding sex offender registrants.
Whatever the case may be, Owen encouraged you to contact the DA’s office to provide more specific information. You can call them at 442-265-1175.
