The closure on Highway 98 from VV Williams Avenue to Cesar Chavez Boulevard in Calexico will be extended through the Cesar Chavez Boulevard and Highway 98 intersection beginning 5 a.m. Tuesday, according to a Caltrans press release.
The closure is needed to accommodate widening the intersection, installing traffic signals and providing railroad improvements as part of the Highway 98 Widening Project.
Caltrans is widening Highway 98 from two to four lanes from Dogwood Road to west of Ollie Avenue, and from four to six lanes from Ollie Avenue to Highway 111.
An eastbound Highway 98 detour and westbound Highway 98 detour will be in place for four months.
Eastbound Highway 98 traffic will be detoured to Kloke Road south to Grant Street east to Imperial Avenue north.
Westbound Highway 98 traffic will be detoured to Ollie Avenue south to McKinley Street east, to Harold Avenue south, to Grant Street west, to Kloke Road north.
Motorists on eastbound Highway 98 may also use VV Williams Avenue north to Cole Boulevard east, to southbound Highway 111 to westbound Highway 98.
Construction will include widening and signalizing six intersections. The estimated total cost of the project is $73.1 million. The press release advised motorists to move over a lane or slow when driving through highway work zones.
