EC PAL takes second at tourney.

CHULA VISTA — The El Centro Police Athletic League boys’ soccer team, San Luis Under-15, competed at the Cal State Games here Saturday and Sunday and took second place at the annual event.

The California State Games is a statewide amateur sports festival and a non-profit organizati­on. The mission of the games is to promote and nurture the health, education, and well-being of residents by managing a high quality amateur sports event that encourages community participat­ion and provides an Olympic-style experience.

The first California State Games were held in 1988 and has gone on to impact more than 12,000 athletes every year between the Summer and Winter Games. This year, the soccer portion of the games was played at Southweste­rn College and Larsen Field.

The tournament gave participat­ing teams a chance to play in three pool-play games followed by championsh­ip games.

On Saturday, San Luis took on Bonita Matrix and collected a 2-1 victory.

Later in the day, the team competed against Crusaders Soccer Club and dropped a close contest, 3-2. On Sunday morning the team opened with a 3-0 over Aztecs Campos to move to the final game.

On Sunday afternoon San Luis once again took on Aztecs Campos, this time falling 4-0 to finish in second place at the games in the Boys’ 2003 Division.

San Luis has competed in the game since 2013 and to date has earned one gold medal, two silver medals and a bronze medal.

Players include Oscar Olmos Jr, Joseph Padilla, Andres Andrade, Ernest Ibarra, Cesar Lucero, Francisco Flores, Carlos Colmenares, Brandon Lua, Jesse Nuñez, Victor Avalos Jr, Alexander Haro, Abraham Alvarado, Jesus Rodriguez, Gabriel Cardenas, Angel Baranda and coached Pablo Nava and Oscar Olmos.
