Emilia Caabay Quimuro Carrera Howard Smithers

QUIMURO CAZARES CARRERA Sept. 12, 1936 - July 10, 2017

Quimuro Carrera, 80, of Calexico passed away on Monday, July 10, 2017 in El Centro.

He was born September 12, 1936 in Durango, Mexico and later married Guadalupe Cazares Ayon on October 29, 1961.

Quimuro Cazares was a loving husband, father and Tata. He worked his whole life to give his family a better life. First as a Migrate Worker, then as a Feed Mill, he found his true calling later in life as a writer. Quimuro wrote weekly columns in the El Sol del Valle newspaper, read his poems on the radio and later published two books of his work. He once wrote, “Queriendo ser Poeta, Aprendi a amar al mundo.” Quimuro was a beloved grandfathe­r who adored his 13 grandchild­ren and 2 great-grandchild­ren. He told them stories of his childhood, jokes he heard on the radio and read them stories from the local newspaper.

Quimuro enjoyed solitarie and crossword puzzles. He spent his final days with his entire family by his side. We “love you forever,” Tata Quimuro.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Sofia and Leopoldo Cazares; sister, Lucila Cazares; and granddaugh­ter, Monique.

Quimuro Cazares is survived by the love of his life and wife of 56 years, Guadalupe Cazares Ayon; sons, Martin (Adriana) Cazares of Imperial and Victor (Laura) Cazares of Indio; daughters, Sofia (Joe) Luna and Lupita (Salvador) Zamora of El Centro and Sandra (Marlon) Esquivel of Montclair, CA; grandchild­ren, Jacquie, Monique, Giovanna (Daniel) Gamboa, Jenny (Diego) Torres, Vivian, Victor, Jessica, Karen Anel, Daniel, Salvador, Alexandra, Diego, Edgar and Brianna; great-grandchild­ren, Sebastian Torres and Tessa Gamboa; brothers, Jose (Chepo) Cazares, Angel Cazares and Luis Cazares, and sister, Emma Pena.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at 6 p.m. with Rosary being said at 7 p.m. at Hems Brothers Mortuary in Calexico. Service will be held on Friday, July 21, 2017 at 8 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Calexico and will be officiated by Father Miguel Campos. Burial will immediatel­y follow at Mt. View Cemetery in Calexico.

EMILIA ARENAS CAABAY Apr. 3, 1941 - July 5, 2017

Emilia Caabay, 76, of Imperial passed away on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 in Imperial.

She was born April 3, 1941 in Mulatos Sonora. She was a loving mother, grandmothe­r, and great-grandmothe­r. She will truly be missed but never forgotten and always in our hearts.

Emilia was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Caabay and sons, Frank Caabay and Rudy Caabay.

She is survived by her sister, Rosa Arenas Ibarra of Rosarito; daughters, Martha, Mirna and Mercedes Caabay of Imperial; 13 grandchild­ren, 19 great-grandchild­ren, 1 great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 20, 2017 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Hems Brothers Mortuary in El Centro with Rosary being said at 7 p.m. Service will be held on Friday, July 21, 2017 at 8 to 9 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in El Centro. Burial will immediatel­y follow at Evergreen Cemetery in El Centro.

HOWARD C. SMITHERS June 1, 1936 - July 14, 2017

Howard Smithers, 81, of El Centro California, went to be with the Lord on July 14, 2017, after a long hard battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Some knew him as Teacher, Counselor, Salesman and Auctioneer. However, most knew him as Cattleman of California Livestock Commission Company. We knew him as Husband, Father, Brother, Grandfathe­r (Papa) and Great Grandfathe­r.

Howard is survived by his wife, Mildred of 61 years and their two children, Amanda Brooke and her husband Vince, Robert Smithers and his wife Virginia; his 4 grandchild­ren, Lacie and her husband Adam, Josh and his wife Cassidy, Madeline and Sam; his great-grandchild­ren, Autumn, Lucas, Cameron, Tyler, and Morgan; his brother, John and his sisters, GeorgeAnn and Janell; his 3 nieces, Aliza, Abigail and Allyn; and the rest of his family and friends.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, George and Geneva Smithers and his grandson, Brandon Brooke.

A Memorial Service will be held at Christ Community Church at 590 W. Orange, El Centro, CA, on Monday July 24, 2017 at 4:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hope for Haiti, through Christ Community Church.
