Felon arrested for allegedly carrying weapon in public.
A 29-year-old Brawley resident was arrested on the morning of July 7 on suspicion of weapon Ambriz offenses stated
county Sheriffs’ Office arrest logs.
Steven George Ambriz was taken into custody at approximately 11:20 a.m. Thursday in the 300 block of A Street by Brawley police officers and booked into county jail for alleged stolen auto, felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm in a public place and engaging in gang activity, stated the arrest logs.
Ambriz was held on a $5,000 bail for the four alleged offenses, held on a $100,000 bail for an alleged felony bench warrant and held on no bail for alleged parole violation, stated activity logs.
At around 11 a.m. July 7, the police department’s communication center received the report of an individual walking in the area of the 300 block of A Street with a gun, a Brawley Police Department press release stated.
An entry in the County Sheriff’s Office activity logs at the same time and date described the initial call to be in suspicion of a male with a shotgun.
Brawley police officers responded to the area and located a subject matching the clothing and physical description provided.
A search of the area was conducted by Brawley police officers assisted by county Sheriff’s deputies and a loaded shotgun was located in a vacant lot on the 600 block of North Imperial Avenue, stated the press release and activity logs.
The 29-year-old was then taken into custody without incident, stated the press release.
