During the course of the traffic stop, officers located over 14 grams of methamphetamine and an imitation firearm, stated the press release.
As a result of the investigation, Viviana Morales and Juan Brizuela were both arrested, the press release stated.
Brizuela, 33, was arrested by Brawley police officers in the 100 block of Eastern Avenue and booked into county jail at 3 a.m. Thursday on suspicion of possession of a narcotic controlled substance, false identification to a police officer, possession of a controlled substance for sale, imitating a firearm or altering changes to look more realistic and transporting or selling a controlled substance, stated county Sheriff’s Office arrest records.
Due to the fact a child was in the vehicle at the time of the arrest, Imperial County Child Protective Services was notified and they conducted their investigation outside the city of Brawley, stated the press release.
At 2:40 a.m. Thursday, Imperial County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the Brawley Police Department to assist Imperial County Child Protective Services with a home visit.
According to county Sheriff’s Office activity logs, Brawley PD advised that the male half was arrested earlier Thursday for having 16 grams of an undisclosed drug and alleged firearms.
CPS went to the residence to do a home inspection and possibly take other children that were there, stated the activity logs.
The home visit required CPS to remove approximately eight children from the home, which was located on East Wilkinson Road in Calipatria, confirmed an investigator from the county Sheriff’s Office.
County deputies were present only to keep the peace and to further allow CPS to conduct business, explained the investigator.
Further details on why the children were removed were unavailable.
