Two property backyards affected by fire
The backyards of two properties on Brandt Road were reportedly affected by a fire that occurred early Friday morning, stated county Sheriff’s Office activity records.
The fire only affected what was in the back of each property and no injuries were sustained.
At approximately 12:25 a.m., Brawley Fire Department responded to a fire reported by the home owner of the residence in the 4500 block of Brandt Road.
Brawley FD then requested Imperial County Fire Department within 5 minutes of the initial call.
Also requested were fire departments from Westmorland, Calipatria and El Centro.
Within a half hour after arriving on scene, the fire was controlled, confirmed Imperial County Fire Department Battalion Chief Salvador Flores.
Firefighters stayed on scene until about 4 a.m. Friday.
Affected was a shed in the rear residence of a home.
In the shed were miscellaneous items such as Christmas decorations, spare tires, a vehicle and trailer.
The fire eventually spread to the backyard of the residence next to it, which had two storage units with a variety of farm and irrigation equipment.
Both home owners were on site at the time of the incident.
According to activity logs, the fire was approximately 200 yards from the residences.
The county fire department explained they have an idea of where the fire originated but have yet to determine the exact cause of it, as there was no power or heat source nearby.
