Vehicle versus pedestrian incident

A vehicle versus pedestrian incident reportedly took place Thursday night between Highway 86 and Second Street, stated county Sheriff’s Office activity records.

No detailed informatio­n on the victim or injuries was available.

A REACH helicopter was initially requested and put on standby, although was eventually canceled.

The incident was first reported at approximat­ely 9 p.m. Thursday with local agencies arriving to the scene shortly after.

Assistance from El Centro Police Department was requested to secure the area.

According to ECPD call logs, a driver and four other subjects fled westbound on Second Street. County Sheriff’s Office activity logs also stated five subjects fled from the scene.

Two young males reportedly ran southbound from Imperial Avenue, possible to airport area. Another subject with a white shirt headed westbound from Second Street and two addition subjects went northbound from Imperial Avenue from Second Street, detailed the activity logs.

Activity logs stated county Sheriff’s deputies were unable to locate anyone at the airport area.

The backyard of a residence was searched by County sheriff’s deputies along with Imperial police officers, though no further informatio­n was given.

The city of Imperial’s Public Informatio­n Office confirmed Friday that an investigat­ion on the incident is still ongoing.
