Homicide suspect reportedly traveling to EC captured

A suspect in a homicide in Long Prairie, M.N. that was believed to be en route to his mother’s home in El Centro has reportedly been located and taken into custody.

Jose Raul Herrera Torres, 35, was taken into custody Friday morning at an undisclose­d location, confirmed the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehensi­on at approximat­ely 10:30 a.m. Friday.

A be-on-the-lookout was requested by Long Prairie Police Department to all local agencies at approximat­ely 4:30 a.m. Friday for suspicion of a homicide suspect, stated county Sheriff’s Office activity logs.

The homicide occurred at approximat­ely 6 p.m. Thursday and the suspect was stated to possibly have a knife, county Sheriff’s Office activity logs stated. The suspect was believed to be on the way to his mother’s residence on Ross Avenue, stated the activity logs.

Long Prairie PD requested a county sheriff’s deputy to attempt to contact the suspect’s mother and advise her of the situation.

The suspect’s family was advised of the situation and stated they have not been in contact with him since August of last year, stated the activity logs. The family was advised to contact the county Sheriff’s Office if the subject arrives at their location or contacts them, stated the activity logs.

An alert requesting assistance from the public in locating Torres that was issued early Friday morning was canceled at approximat­ely 10:35 a.m. Friday. According to news station in Minnesota, authoritie­s were searching for Torres after the body of a deceased female was discovered Thursday night.

Torres was reportedly last seen with a female at approximat­ely 5:30 p.m. Thursday outside a residence in Long Prairie.

When Long Prairie police arrived to the residence, Herrera and a car were stated to be missing.

The news station reported that evidence at the scene leads authoritie­s to believe the deceased female found was a homicide victim. The Anoka County Medical Examiner has yet to release the official autopsy results or the identity of the woman. According to activity logs, Herrera was believed to driving a 2002 tan Ford Focus with Minnesota license plate number 976DYA.

Minnesota authoritie­s were uncertain of Herrera’s direction of travel, but believed he had ties to California and Mexico, reported the news station.
