Home on Olive Avenue caught on fire

-

A second alarm structure fire occurred at a residence in the 800 block of Olive Avenue Friday night, stated an El Centro Fire Department press release.

Over a dozen firefighters brought the fire under control by midnight at the home, located at 854 Olive Avenue.

The residents were home at the time of the fire, but all escaped uninjured. The press release stated no injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported.

According to El Centro Police Department call logs, a family of three was affected by the fire and the Red Cross was contacted. There were no pets or children involved.

At approximately 9:40 p.m., the El Centro Fire Department began receiving multiple 911 calls reporting the residence on fire. The first ECPD Engine Company arrived on scene at 9:43 p.m. and found the residence with heavy smoke coming from the attic, stated the press release.

A second alarm was then created and an additional Engine Company from Imperial County Fire Department was requested.

El Centro firefighters performed an offensive fire attack at the home.

Vertical ventilation using a chainsaw was created to assist the firefighters. Flames were contained primarily to the attic with light smoke damage throughout the residence. Fire crews remained on scene battling the blaze until about midnight.

A battalion chief and three fire engines from El Centro, along with a fire engine from the county Fire Department, extinguished the fire.

Imperial Irrigation District, So Cal Gas and the ECPD assisted throughout the incident.

El Centro Fire Department Investigators are currently working to determine the cause, explained the press release.
