Highlighte­d in violence against women

A Mexican agency highlighte­d the state of Baja California among the states with the highest percentage of women reporting violence.

Mexico’s National Institute of Statistics and Geography, or INEGI in Spanish, released the results of its National Poll on Home Relations Dynamics of 2016.

According to the survey results 66.2 percent of women living in Baja California reported violence against them.

The results put the state in tenth place.

The agency said nationwide about 90 percent of women declined to file a report or to seek support as the problem did not impact them at all.

The agency included in the survey emotional, sexual, physical or economic and financial violence.

According to poll results 23.2 percent of Baja California’s 15 years of age women and older reported violence at school leaving the state in twelfth place among the lowest.

However, in terms of violence at the workplace, mostly from co-workers, supervisor­s and managers, the state was fourth nationwide with 32.2 percent.

Regarding to community violence, specifical­ly occurring at parks, streets and public transit, Baja California was eight nationwide with 37.7 percent of local women reporting such issue.

In terms of violence coming from their significan­t ones 35 percent of Baja California women reported the problem in the survey, which leaves the state in fifth place among those with the lowest rates.
