Sterling scores Man City winner, sent off in frenzied finale

Raheem Sterling scored Manchester City’s winner deep into stoppage time at Bournemouth, sparking frenzied celebrations that saw him sent off.

While City avoided a second successive Premier League draw with the 2-1 victory on the south cost, the fallout from the wild conclusion could linger beyond Saturday’s final whistle.

Police officers intervened to hold back Benjamin Mendy and exchanged words with striker Sergio Aguero. Sterling had already been booked and was shown a second yellow card for apparently excessive celebrations following his looping deflected strike seven minutes into stoppage time.

City recovered after falling behind when Charlie Daniels spectacularly struck into the roof of the net from a tight angle but Gabriel Jesus leveled in the 21st minute.

“Teams who always have 65-70 percent possession always have the player sent off,” Guardiola said, “perhaps someone can explain that to me one day.”

After three rounds of its first Premier League campaign, Huddersfield is unbeaten and yet to concede after drawing 0-0 against Southampton. Brighton collected its first point since gaining promotion by holding 10-man Watford 0-0.

But West Ham and Crystal Palace have opened the season with three successive losses. West Ham lost 3-0 at Newcastle, while Palace was beaten 2-0 by Swansea.
