Kathryn Baretta Wood, 81, passed peacefully on August 26, 2017 from complicati­ons with her battle from cancer.

She was born October 14, 1935 in Calipatria, CA one of seven children to parents John and Lillian Baretta. After attending schools in Calipatria and San Luis Rey Catholic Academy. Kathryn married Raymond Snelling on December 31, 1957 in a double wedding with her sister Evalyn Currier. Raymond too soon passed away in 1961. Kathyrn in 1963 married Otis Wood Jr. After 36 years of marriage Otis passed away in 1999. Kathryn volunteere­d endless hours at Sacred Heart School in Brawley, affectiona­tely known as “the milk lady”.

Kathryn was preceded in death by her sister, Barbara; brother, Larry and daughter, Brenda.

She is survived by her 3 children, Steve, Mark and Donna; siblings, Evalyn, Johnny, Vickie and Frankie; 12 grandchild­ren; 12 great-grandchild­ren and her long-time companion Donald Lambe.

A Vigil service will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Brawley September 12th at 7 p.m. Mass will be held September 13th at 10 a.m at Sacred Heart Church. A private burial at Riverview Cemetery will follow after Mass. The Family would like to invite all of Kathyrn’s friends and family to attend a luncheon at Stockman’s Club at noon following the burial service.

Charles Westmorela­nd, 89, of Westmorela­nd Ranch, 3 1/2 miles northwest of Seeley passed away on Saturday, August 26, 2017.

He was born November 26, 1927 in El Centro and later married Alexa Westmorela­nd on June 22, 1952 in Colton, CA. Charles was a lifelong farmer and valley resident. Charlie, as everyone knew him, loved his family, his friends, farming, Imperial Valley and Goldwater. Charlie attended Lantana School; graduated from Central High in 1946. Served in US Army in Korea in 1947, as Farm Bureau president in 1976, and on the Imperial Unified School District School Board in the 1980’s.

He is survived by his wife, Alexa Westmorela­nd; children, Sally Westmorela­nd (Carlos Hernandez) of Independen­ce, CA, Mary (Dan) Manseau of Portland, OR Vicki (David) Schille of Bothell, WA, Doug (Elena) Westmorela­nd of Imperial, CA and 8 grandchild­ren.

Memorial service will be held on Monday, September 11, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, El Centro and will be officiated by Jeff Hudelson.

Elvira Valenzuela, 87, of Heber passed away on Friday, August 25, 2017.

She was born September 21, 1929 in Las Igueras De Los Padillas Sinaloa, Mexico.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at 6 to 9 p.m. at Hems Brothers Mortuary 1975 S. 4th St. El Centro, CA with Rosary being said at 7 p.m. Mass will be held on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at 9 a.m. Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Heber. Burial will immediatel­y follow at Mt. View Cemetery in Calexico.

Elvira was preceded in death by her husband, Liberato Valenzula and son Jaime Valenzuela.

She is survived by her sons, Mauricio Vlaenzeula of Korea and Jose Antonio Valenzuela of Heber; daughters, Maria Valenzula of Heber and Esther Ramirez of Long Beach, CA; 9 grandchild­ren and 3 great-grandchild­ren.
