Man whose relatives died mysterious­ly will represent self

A man suspected in the 2013 slaying of his millionair­e grandfathe­r plans to represent himself in his family’s attempt to bar him from receiving an inheritanc­e.

Nathan Carman was a suspect in the shooting death of his maternal grandfathe­r, 87-yearold real estate developer John Chakalos, in Connecticu­t. No one has been arrested.

Last year, a boat carrying Carman and his mother, Linda, on a fishing trip near Rhode Island sank. She’s presumed dead.

Her three sisters have sued in New Hampshire, accusing him of killing his grandfathe­r and possibly his mother. They asked a judge to block Carman from collecting money from the estate.

Carman lives in Vernon, Vermont.

He has denied any involvemen­t in Chakalos’ death and says he didn’t sabotage the boat. of Berlin was charged Saturday with disorderly conduct and terroristi­c threats.

Richland Township police allege that Dunbar was on duty at the Army National Guard Training Center when he said, “If someone pays me enough money, I will kill the vice president.” Witnesses said they contacted commanding officers after they heard Dunbar make the threat twice.

Police said Dunbar was taken to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center for evaluation and then to county prison in lieu of $250,000 bond. Court documents don’t list an attorney and a listed phone number for Dunbar couldn’t be found Monday. hit her with a hammer. A possible motive for the attack hasn’t been released.

Martin Turkiewicz has pleaded not guilty and is being held in jail without bail pending a court appearance Wednesday.

His wife is being treated at a hospital.
