Mexicali PD regrets comments.

-

The Mexicali Police Department regretted comments posted by an agent regarding the recent earthquake that struck central Mexico.

Officer José Antonio Gámez Guerrero jokingly announced the purchase of water bottles and boxes of 7UP soft drinks to send to those affected by the earthquake.

Six rural Mexicali residents were intoxicated during the weekend after consuming 7UP soft drinks apparently laced with methamphetamine. One of the victims died.

The officer asked his followers to help by purchasing additional soft drinks.

“Regarding the publication that has been shared in social media regarding a comment made by a municipal police officer on his individual Facebook page, we want to communicate the Municipal Public Safety Department rejects this type of actions that by no means represent us as a public service institution,” the agency stated.

“We inform that in an immediate manner, we moved to take internal measures to regulate these type of attitudes that damage the law enforcement agency’s reputation.” Mexicali PD offered an apology and said it regrets the unfortunate events occurred in Mexico City.

The agency also said it is working to provide all support possible to those affected by the earthquake.
