QMy neighbor in El Centro has nine vehicles; one is broken and parked in front of my house. They have two cars inside their driveway, three in front of their house, leaving four scattered among the neighbors. I realize the street is public, but that leaves no parking for my vehicles. Is there anything about how many vehicles a single-family home can have? If so, where can I obtain it so I can show them? I know I am not the only one complaining, a co-worker living in Imperial has the same problem. For those that read this and the shoe fits, please have a little consideration. — Tired Of Too Many Vehicles, El Centro

AWe have some good news and bad news. The bad news is, according to a previous Probe question with the similar issue, there is no limit as to how many vehicles a homeowner can park on the street. According to El Centro Police Cmdr. Robert Sawyer, Article IV, Section 17, of the city ordinance states there are no restrictions as to the number of passenger vehicles an individual may own or park at their house. However, Article IV, Section 17-105, states a vehicle cannot be left on a public street for more than 48 hours. Sawyer previously recommended speaking to the home owner and if that doesn’t work, then call the parking enforcement at 760-352-2113 and notify them of the “broken” vehicle parked in front of your house. It has to be moved to a location where it is not visible from public view, which means it can’t be left in the driveway either if it is not operational. Also, depending on the driveway, the home owner might be in violation of parking too many vehicles on the driveway. Vehicles must be parked on the driveway, not on the lawn or a second driveway according to the same ordinance. If a second ordinance was built, it must have been with a building permit from the city.

You’ll have to call the El Centro Police parking enforcement and inform them of the possible violations.
