Stephanie Escalera, 47, of El Cen­tro passed away on Septem­ber 29, 2017.

She was born Novem­ber 27, 1969 in El Cen­tro. Stephanie at­tended ele­men­tary schools in El Cen­tro and grad­u­ated from Cen­tral Union High School in 1988 where she was an ex­cep­tional ath­lete let­ter­ing in Vol­ley­ball, Bas­ket­ball and Soft­ball. Soft­ball was her pas­sion for many years and she was a stand­out on the field. She was a tough com­peti­tor as an all-star short­stop and third base­man with the abil­ity to stop any­thing. Stephanie worked in the Ti­tle in­dus­try for many years.

She was pre­ceded in death by her grand­par­ents, An­to­nia Patino Escalera, Papa Fred Escalera, Mama Lupe Escalera, Juan and Manuela Ro­driguez; un­cles, Dar­rell Escalera, John Ro­driguez, Henry Ro­driguez, Gil­bert Ro­driguez; fa­ther of her chil­dren, Steven Men­doza.

She is sur­vived by son, Christo­pher Men­doza; daugh­ters, Cas­san­dra Marie Men­doza and Cortni Michelle Men­doza; par­ents, Larry and Toni Escalera; broth­ers, Stephen (Patti) Escalera, Michael Escalera; sis­ter, Jen­nifer Escalera (Vin­cent O’Campo); nephew, Vin­cent Escalera-O’Campo; nu­mer­ous un­cles, aunts and cousins.

Rosary will be held on Mon­day, Oc­to­ber 16, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. with Mass to fol­low at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in El Cen­tro Burial will im­me­di­ately fol­low at Ever­green Ceme­tery in El Cen­tro.
