Tigers await clash with Eagles
BLYHTE — The Imperial Valley League girls’ golf season came to a close Tuesday afternoon at the Blythe Municipal Golf Course here.
The seventh meet of the year helped decide the IVL individual champion as well as solidified the team titleholder, which hasn’t changed since 2015.
For the third straight year, the team from Imperial High School claimed the IVL title after finishing the season undefeated after edging Southwest High School in the final meet of the year.
The Tigers posted a group score of 260 on Tuesday, followed by the Eagles with a 265.
Coming in third place was Holtville High School with a 268, followed by Palo Verde Valley (294), Brawley Union High School (295) and Central Union High School (328).
Helping Imperial claim the third-straight IVL crown were Morgan Preece, Raegan Preece and Demi Preece.
The trio finished in the top five overall at the meet in Blythe, as they have all season.
The Preece sisters finished second, third and tied for fourth overall, with Vincent Memorial High School’s Jimenna Ramirez snagged medalist honors after shooting a 39 on the par-37 course.
Morgan took second with a 44, while Raegan finished with a 46 and Demi and Holtville High’s Rachel Chambers and Southwest High’s Kayla Howard shared fourth-place honors after they all shot a 47, rounding out the event’s top six golfers.
The score of 39 for Vincent Memorial’s Ramirez helped the IVL newcomer snag the IVL individual champion honor.
Ramirez will represent as the IVL individual champion, while Imperial will represent the IVL as team champion in the upcoming CIF-San Diego Section playoffs.
Other Valley teams may get play-in matches depending on division seedings.
Individuals from the IV may also qualify for CIF based on their differential to par.
