A 45-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday at the Highway 86 checkpoint for allegedly possessing about 50 pounds of methamphetamine and 2 pounds of heroin.

Patricia Miguel-Ramirez was taken into custody at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the checkpoint by Drug Enforcement Administration agents and booked into county jail on suspicion of manufacturing, distributing, dispensing or possession with intent to manufacture, distribute or dispense a controlled substance, stated county Sheriff’s Office arrest records.

Ramirez was held on no bond for the alleged felony offense, arrest records stated.

According to a federal court complaint, a human-narcotics detection dog alerted to the driver’s side of Ramirez’s vehicle while crossing at 9:35 a.m. Wednesday.

Upon further inspection, U.S. Border Patrol agents observed fresh tool marks on the under carriage area of the vehicle holding the fuel tank.

Using a fiber optic scope to look inside the fuel tank, agents observed multiple packages, stated the court complaint.

A total of 48 vacuum sealed packages were discovered inside the fuel tank.

Forty-seven packages weighed a total of approximately 52.07 pounds and tested positive for methamphetamine using a narcotics identification kit, the court complaint stated.

One package weighed a total of approximately 2.81 pounds and tested positive for heroin, stated the court complaint.

In the court complaint, Ramirez stated she had agreed to transport an unknown quantity of what she believed to be narcotics to Ontario.

Ramirez also stated she was advised she would be paid $1,000 to transport the narcotics.
