John “Jack” Haidu Borchard, 90, of El Centro, CA passed away Saturday, October 21, 2017 of natural causes.

Jack was born in Santa Ana, CA on April 27, 1927. He married Carolyn Ashburn of Baltimore, MD on July 16, 1949 in Santa Ana, CA. Jack truly enjoyed his life. Self-employed farmer in the Imperial Valley as John H Borchard Ranches & El Oso Grande from 1958 to 1977, S.W. Marketing from 1990 to 1993. Dad lived for his wife and family. Wonderful parties, dancing, cards, flying his plane, driving his boat and motor home. He loved traveling around the U.S., Canada and Europe. He took grandkids in the summer to spend time with them in the motorhome, bringing them to Idaho to visit the Simpson’s, Lake Havasu for Thanksgivi­ng, plane rides, boat rides and lots of Sunday dinners and celebratio­ns. Our Dad was a devout Catholic, rememberin­g everyone in his daily rosary and prayers. Our Dad was so wonderful, devoted to our Lord and Blessed Virgin Mary. Giving us his guidance, strength, encouragem­ent, work ethic, his love of our country and God, his compassion and most importantl­y his love. We are grateful and blessed to have him for our Dad. Dad has been lovingly cared for by daughter, Barbara and Martha Favila for over seven years. Dad was extremely grateful for his excellent care and love. Jan Bell, Tracy Norton and Chinetta Potts-Scott also took wonderful care of Dad. Our Dad is gone but will never be forgotten. God Bless you.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn; daughter, Pamela Layaye; grandson, Andrew Simpson; granddaugh­ter, Monique Unanue; parents, Charles and Caroline; brothers, Charles and Richard; sisters, Carolyn and Elizabeth; brother, Paul (Kathy) Borchard of Idaho; children, Barbara (Dennis) Dahm of El Centro, CA, Butch (Barbara) Layaye of Brawley, CA, Sharon (Fred) Simpson of Yuma, AZ, Kevin Borchard of Hanford, CA, Gloria Borchard of Las Vegas, NV; 13 grandchild­ren, Stephanie, Corine, Denise and Michael Dahm, Charles, Adrienne and Brian Layaye, Andrew and Carolyn Simpson, Kimberly, Karrie and Kaylin Borchard and Monique Borchard; 29 great-grandchild­ren, 5 great- great- grandchild­ren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends; loving caregiver, Martha Favila and sons, Kevin and Diego.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 27, 2017 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Frye Chapel & mortuary in Brawley with Rosary at 7 p.m. Mass will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 8 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Brawley and will be officiated by Father Ed Horning. Burial will immediatel­y follow at Riverview Cemetery in Brawley.
