GUILLERMO “WILLIE” ESQUER

1939 - 2017

Our dad, husband and grandfathe­r, Guillermo “Willie” Esquer of 78 years of age; has started his new journey into heaven. He passed away on October 21, 2017 surrounded by his loved ones up until his death. He was a wonderful man who was loved and who will be missed by so many. We will think of him as living in the hearts of those he touched.

He was born in Santa Ana, Sonora, Mexico on June 25, 1939. He later moved to Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico where he grew up. In 1956 his parents and siblings emi- to Calexico, California. He attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Academy in Calexico, CA, St. Joseph Catholic School in Holtville, CA, and Calexico High School in Calexico, CA. After graduating from high school, he joined the United States Army and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Upon his return, he married Maria Enriqueta Verdugo on May 16, 1965. He worked in the Retail and Produce Marketing business in Calexico, CA and El Centro, CA.

Guillermo (Willie) Esquer was preceded in death by his mother, Altagracia Figueroa Esquer and father, Santiago Godinez Esquer.

He is survived by his loving wife, Maria Enriqueta Esquer of Calexico, CA, his two children, William (Monica) Esquer, Jr of San Diego, CA and Myrella (Victor, Sr) Rocha of Calexico, CA. His grandchild­ren: Stephanie Alexis and Victor Manuel Rocha, Jr; Mateo and Sebastian Esquer. His siblings: Santiago Alfredo “Jaime” (Amparo) Esquer, Jr; Hilda Esquer of Calexico, CA; Neyta (Wes) Borninkhof of Casa Grande, AZ; Albert (Laura) Esquer of Los Angeles, CA; Abelardo (Lidia) Esquer, Haydé (Thomas) Eaton of El Centro, CA; Elizabeth (Daniel) Ballard of Ventura, CA; Gilda (John) Glaser of Calexico, CA; Jaime (Joyce) Esquer of Corona, CA; Luis Antonio Esquer of Calexico, CA; and, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Guillermo (Willie) was a wonderful son, brother, father, grandfathe­r and husband. He was a sports’, motorcycle and an NHRA automotive enthusiast. His memory is a blessing to us all and he will always be a beautiful soul that will never be forgotten.

A mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 9 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Calexico, CA.
