BRAWLEY — Last week, Brawley Union High volleyball team captured the 2017 Imperial Valley League title after going a perfect 12-0 among local teams. The Wildcats defeated Imperial and Holtville highs in their final week of action, and did so with the help of senior outside hitter Logan Nemlowill.
“It was my goal to go out with a bang, and we did,” said the 17 year old. The 6-foot-2-inch starter paced the team in kills in both wins, tallying 20 against the Tigers and 14 against the Vikings. Nemlowill credited her teammates with helping her reach the double-figure kills from the back row passers to junior setter Jalyn Ayala.
“Jennah (Rodriguez) was definitely on during those games and she gives perfect passes nearly every time, so I couldn’t have done it without my team,” Nemlowill said. Nemlowill has been a varsity letter winner for the past three seasons and said this year’s team will stand out most to her. “I’ve played club with most of the girls on the team, so we’re very close,” she said.

What do you enjoy most about your sport?
I enjoy that it’s a team sport. You need that perfect pass to get a perfect set and hit. It’s not just about one person. I just enjoy being together with my team.
What is one of your more memorable moments in your sport?
Getting the game-winning point against Imperial.
Who inspires you and why?
My mom inspires me because she’s supported me from the beginning and takes me all the way to San Diego to practice and so does my grandma. My team also inspires me because without them I wouldn’t be the player I am today.
What are your goals for the rest of this season?
To make it to CIF finals and to hopefully win.
