- BY ARTURO BOJORQUEZ Adelante Valle Editor

The Imperial County Sheriff’s Office will receive a $2.3 million resource package from the federal government through the Stonegarden program.

On Tuesday, the Imperial County Board of Supervisors authorized the receipt of funds from the program administered by Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

Last month, Imperial County Sheriff Ray Loera was notified of the allocation of the resources by the California Office of Emergency Services.

The sheriff explained that the funds will be used to improve and increase the presence of uniformed patrol cars in the border corridors between Mexico and the United States.

These resources will also serve to improve cooperation and coordination among local, state and federal law enforcement agencies in order to ensure security at the US border.

Loera explained that about $600,000 dollars will be used to pay salaries, benefits, vehicle maintenance and administrative costs.

The rest of the package will be used for the reimbursement of local and state police agencies participating in the project.

The resource package must be approved by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), which will later authorize the reimbursement of expenses related to the project.

It is unknown if the local police agencies will include the arrests of undocumented immigrants through this operation.
