DEAR PROBE
Q
What’s being built at the Imperial Valley Commons mall? Sometimes developers will have signs announcing what’s being built, but that doesn’t seem to be the case this time. Whatever it is, I hope it brings with it a good number of job opportunities for the Valley. It’s nice to see Kohl’s finally getting some company. — Curious, El Centro

This Probe writer was one of a handful who recently wrote to us inquiring about the ongoing construction, which is in its initial stages near Kohl’s in the area known as the Imperial Valley Commons.
Apparently, a 44,000 square foot two-story medical building is proposed for the site, we’re told. Norma Villicana, Community Development director for the city of El Centro, also tells us that various tenants are expected to call the medical building home once it is finished.
A message left with the project manager asking for additional information about the ongoing construction and the building’s future tenants was not responded in time for this publication, but we’ll follow up soon enough.
Nor does the project manager, San Diego-based Pacific Medical Buildings, make any mention of its ongoing local construction project on its website, where a number of other press releases related to ongoing and recent projects are found.
A press release from June related to the construction of a 56,000 square foot office building within the San Antonio Regional Medical Hospital campus in Upland discloses the project’s amount of signed leases and pending lease agreements.
We’re hoping the project manager is able to share such information with us regarding its local construction project, in the hopes we can provide the Probe writer with additional information about prospective jobs that may result from the project.
