As part of the consent agenda during this week’s Board of Directors meeting, the Imperial Irrigation District approved more than $10 million in expenditure for six different contracts and projects for a variety of services.

The biggest portion of that was a total of $7 million for Utility Tree Service for two separate contracts.

The largest of the two is a three-year, $5 million contract to provide tree substation landscape maintenance services including tree trimming and removal for line clearance and as-needed bare ground vegetation control at IID substations.

The contract runs through the end of 2020.

Also, a separate $2 million contract for the same length was also approved as part of the consent portion of the agenda.

The second contract is specifically to provide transmission vegetation management services which include tree trimming and removal for the right of way line clearance and ground vegetation control that pose a threat to the bulk electric system.

For both contracts, a selection panel evaluated the two proposals the IID received following a solicitation period and in both instances, Utility Tree Service was deemed as the highest-ranked and lowest-cost respondent ahead of Wright Tree Service of the West.

Repairs

The board also approved a $1.5 million project to replace five malfunctioning breakers.

Four of them were purchased in 2013; one year later began experiencing regular dysfunction as a result of failed hydraulic systems and have to be replaced to protect the grid system.

The energy department will use breakers untended for concealed projects from inventory stock.

A separate project to repair the Tuberose Check structure at the Westside Main canal will cost the district more than $800,000.

According to backup documents, the structure has experienced multiple partial failures within recent years. Within the past few years, sinkholes have formed due to pipe separation.

A water bypass is planned to continue to provide water to customers downstream of its location.

“The three-bay outlet headwalls, along with some concrete pipe, require replacement,” according to the document.

Miscellaneous

In addition to the aforementioned projects, the final two projects approved as part of Monday’s meeting include service agreements for three years for professional construction management and inspection services at an estimated value of $600,000, three vendors have been pre-selected but will only be used on a work order basis and the vendor with the lowest cost will be awarded each specific work order.

The three vendors to be considered include Dynamic Consulting Engineers, George Cairo Engineering, and The Holt Group.

Finally the last of the contract approved under consent is a three-year $500,000 contract for janitorial cleaning services for 29 IID facilities with Calexico based Mylo Janitorial.
