Gun Shots fired during disturbance.
Gunshots were reportedly overheard by Brawley police officers who had responded to a report of a disturbance at around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday inside a residence in the 600 block of De Anza Place, the Police Department reported.
An unidentified individual who was later taken into custody without incident at the residence in question was determined to have been experiencing an adverse mental health episode, the BPD reported.
The domestic disturbance and related shooting incident had also prompted police to set up a perimeter around the area that limited vehicle and pedestrian traffic in and out of the area.
Residences in the immediate area had also been evacuated as a precautionary measure, a press release stated.
Several firearms had been seized from inside the residence in connection to the incident, BPD reported.
The Brawley Police Department had requested the assistance of the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Response Team (SERT) to provide additional mutual aid public safety support.
Following the individual’s detainment, they were medically treated at Pioneers Memorial Hospital and later released to the county Behavioral Health Services facility in El Centro, the BPD reported.
The Brawley Police Department is currently reviewing any possible criminal actions related to the incident, stated Cmdr. Brett Houser.
The agency also expressed thanks to all mutual aid agencies that responded to the incident.
