Woman arrested after smuggling meth in underwear
A 20-year-old Mexicali woman was arrested after attempting to smuggle packages of methamphetamine concealed in her undergarments across the West Port of Entry on Tuesday.
Rosalba M. Lara-Martinez was taken into custody by Homeland Security Investigations agents at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the POE and booked into county jail on suspicion of unlawful importation of a controlled substance and knowingly importing or exporting a controlled substance, stated county Sheriff’s Office arrest records.
Lara was held on no bail for the two alleged offenses, stated the arrest records.
According to a federal court complaint, Lara was referred to the pedestrian secondary office for further inspection after a Customs and Border Protection Officer noticed her acting strangely during questioning.
While in the secondary inspection, a CBPO officer performed a pat down on Lara, during which the officer felt a hard, rock-like substance around Lara’s waist.
A Human and Narcotic Detector Dog was requested and alerted positively to Lara’s buttocks area.
Another search was performed by a CBPO officer, in which 12 packages containing a crystal-like substance was found, stated the court complaint.
Two packages were found in Lara’s bra and the rest were found in a spandex-like underwear being worn by Lara. A final package was found in Lara’s underwear.
A sample of the crystal-like substance was obtained from three random packages, and field-tested positive for meth. The total weight of the packages was 5.258 pounds, the court complaint stated.
