Opponents of Eagles and Scots named
Two more wins will give the Southwest and Vincent Memorial high football teams a state championship in their respective divisions.
On Sunday, their opponents in the semifinals of their divisions were named.
Southwest High School
The Eagles are a perfect 13-0 in the season after finishing 5-0 in Imperial Valley League.
On Saturday, the Eagles clinched their first CIF-San Diego Section Division III title in football in school history.
The Eagles will be facing San Joaquin Memorial High of Fresno in the CIF State Division 4-A semifinal at 6 p.m. Saturday at Southwest in El Centro.
The San Joaquin Panthers are 11-2 overall and finished 3-2 for third place in the County/Metro League in the Central Section.
The Panthers beat Tulare Western, 45-31, in the CIF-Central Section Division III championship.
The winner of the Southwest-San Joaquin game will advance to face the winner of the Campolindo High (Morada) vs. Milpitas High game at 6 p.m. Dec. 16.
The site will be determined by the ranking of the winners, but if Southwest wins Saturday, the championship will be in El Centro.
The Campolindo-Milpitas game is also scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday in Morada.
Vincent Memorial High School
The Scots are currently 11-2 and finished 3-0 in Manzanita League for the CIF crown. On Nov. 25, the Scots beat Crawford High, 45-3, to clinch the CIF-San Diego Section Division V crown.
The Scots will face Huntington Park at 6 p.m. Saturday at Calexico High in the CIF State Division 6-A semifinal.
The Huntington Park Spartans are 11-3 overall and finished 3-2 for third place in Eastern League in the CIF-Los Angeles City Section.
On Saturday, the Spartans beat Cleveland High of Reseda, 18-14, to clinch the CIF Division II title.
The winner of the Vincent Memorial-Huntington Park game will go on to face the winner of the Rio Vista vs. Galileo (San Francisco) game at 6 p.m. Dec. 16 at a site yet to be determined.
The Rio Vista-Galileo game is scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday at Rio Vista.
