Two Mexicali men were arrested at 4:20 a.m. Friday after more than 50 pounds of methamphet­amine was allegedly discovered hidden in the vehicle they were travelling in at the Calexico downtown port of entry.

Salvador Gallegos Zazueta, 25, and Yoshi Velarde Vidal, 21, were referred to secondary inspection by a Customs and Border Protection officer who had reportedly received informatio­n that a vehicle similar to the one driven by Gallegos would be transporti­ng narcotics, a federal court complaint stated. Further inspection allegedly revealed 50 packages weighing more than 52 pounds of methamphet­amine hidden in the vehicle’s gas tank, the court complaint stated.

Gallegos and Velarde were booked into county jail and held without bond in connection to the incident.

A 38-year-old man was arrested at 8:50 a.m. Friday at the Calexico east port of entry after more than 85 pounds of methamphet­amine was allegedly found in the vehicle he was driving.

Juan Carlos Cardenas was referred to secondary inspection after a Customs and Border Protection officer observed inconsiste­ncies in the vehicle’s rear bumper and gas tank, a federal court complaint stated.

Further inspection allegedly revealed 94 packages weighing more than 85 pounds hidden in a non-factory compartmen­t, the court complaint stated.

Cardenas, of San Luis Rio Colorado, Sonora, Mexico, was booked into county jail and held without bond in connection to the incident.

A 27-year-old Long Beach man was arrested at 8:50 a.m. Friday at the Calexico east port of entry after more than 32 pounds of methamphet­amine was allegedly found in the vehicle he was driving.

Elizandro Flores was referred to secondary inspection by a Customs and Border Protection officer where an X-ray machine noticed anomalies in the vehicle’s rear seat and trunk, a federal court complaint stated.

Further inspection allegedly revealed 27 packages weighing more than 32 pounds hidden in a non-factory compartmen­t, the court complaint stated.

Flores was booked into county jail and held without bond in connection to the incident.
