John Albert Muller, passed away peacefully at Cottonwood Falls, Kansas on December 2, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by those he loved.

He was born Cyrill Werner Bachmann on April 27, 1949 in Zurich Switzerlan­d. John came to the United States in April of 1952 when he was adopted by his loving parents, Albert and Elsy Muller who raised him in Holtville, California. John attended Jasper School, in rural Holtville, through the 8th grade and then graduated from Holtville High School in May of 1967. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Holtville. After attending Imperial Valley College, John felt a desire to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Army in June of 1968. After completing boot camp at Ford Ord, California in August of 1968, he was transferre­d to Fort Rucker, Alabama for training and completed courses in Army Aviation Maintenanc­e. John proudly served a tour of duty in Vietnam with the HHT, 1st Squadron (Air) 9th Cav, 1st Cav Division from February 1969 until April 30 of 1970. He was discharged from active duty on August 11, 1971 and continued to serve with the reserves until June 1, 1974.

Following active duty, John returned to the family farm in Holtville and attended Imperial Valley College. John married Carolyn Turkovic on February 15, 1975 and from that union had two children, Johnny Muller and Audrey Sullivan. They were later divorced, but continued to maintain a close friendship. He later married Jean Keller in May of 1989. After working various jobs in agricultur­e, John began his hay road siding business called Muller Roadsiding, which he operated until he retired in l996.

In 2001, John moved to Council Grove, Kansas where he resided until his death. John had a passion for music which he collected in every form imaginable. He loved Nascar and college football with the University of Southern California being his favorite team.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Albert and Elsy Muller.

John is survived by his children Johnny Muller, Audrey and her husband, Matthew Sullivan; grandson Linken Muller; granddaugh­ter Kirstin Sullivan, as well as numerous cousins and special friends.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Funeral arrangemen­ts have been made for 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at Zeiner Funeral Home. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Council Grove.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributi­ons can be made to The American Cancer Society or the Halos and Tiaras Foundation, a non-profit organizati­on that assists Imperial Valley children stricken with childhood cancer, in care of Zeiner Funeral Home, PO Box 273, Council Grove, KS 66846.
