The Lion roared and he roared with ferocity. He became weary and frail and ceased to roar, leaving his loved ones in a cruel, deafening silence. Joe P. Agundez, 92, died on December 10, 2017.

He embarked on a trek to join his beloved son, Alex, who succumbed in May 2017. May he now find his way and the peace he so much yearned for. Joe joined the US Army on April 10, 1947. He drove military vehicles while serving. After leaving the military he continued driving. He drove cement trucks for R.T. Pinner Concrete in Brawley for 20 years.

He later worked for Ryerson Concrete in El Centro, where he worked until his retirement. He leaves behind his wife of 66 years, Lucy Agundez.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Lauro Agundez of Westmorlan­d

Joe is survived by his brothers, Juan Agundez of Artesia and Alfredo Agundez of Brawley; children, Mary Ann Ward, Joe (Griselda) Agundez, Celia (Saul) Salazar, Andrew (Jesusa) Agundez and Audrey (Joaquin) Gonzales.

Viewing will be held on Wednesday, December 20th at Frye Chapel and Mortuary in Brawley from 9 to 11 a.m. After a brief blessing, burial will immediatel­y follow at Riverview Cemetery in Brawley.
