Traffic switches on Interstate 8 are scheduled on Segment 5 for approximately seven miles from just west of the Ogilby Road overcrossing to west of Algodones Road and State Route 186, the state Department of Transportation announced Thursday.
Starting Thursday, westbound traffic was reduced to a single lane and switched to the westbound lanes.
On Jan. 5, eastbound traffic will be reduced to a single lane and switched to the westbound lanes.
Both travel directions will be divided by k-rail on the I-8 westbound lanes and will be in place for approximately four months, stated a Caltrans news release.
The westbound on and offramps at Ogilby (Exit 159) remain closed to traffic. Signs are in place to alert motorists to the ramp closures and alternate routes.
Detour Ogilby Road to Westbound I-8: Motorists may access eastbound I-8 from Ogilby Road and exit Sidewinder Road to access westbound I-8.
Detour Westbound I-8 to Ogilby Road: Motorists may proceed westbound I-8 past Ogilby Road and exit at Grays Well Road and access eastbound I-8 to Ogilby Road.
In addition, a five-mile section of I-8 from about onehalf mile west of Highway 111 to one-half mile east of Barbara Worth Drive continues to be reduced to one lane in each direction for Segment 4 work.
Traffic impacts include a reduced speed limit through the construction area and possible travel delays.
Caltrans reminds motorists to slow down when driving through highway work zones. Motorists are reminded to watch for highway workers and moving construction equipment in the project area.
