Man arrested for VMI Supply burglaries

-

A 36-year-old Calexico man was arrested Friday morning in connection to a recent series of burglaries that occurred at VMI Supply, a safety equipment supply company located on M.L. King Street.

Sergio Aispuro-Bedillo was taken into custody at about 2 a.m. Friday at an undisclosed location in Calexico by Calexico police officers and booked into county jail on suspicion of burglary and receiving known stolen property, county Sheriff’s Office arrest records stated. Aispuro was held on a $50,000 bond for the two alleged felony offenses, arrest records stated.

Police initially came into contact with Aispuro while conducting a patrol check at an abandoned residence, and eventually identified him as a suspect in the VMI Supply burglaries.

Police responded to the abandoned residence, 1235 C.N. Perry Ave., after receiving a call from a reporting party, who saw a man coming out of a boat that was parked on the property of the abandoned residence.

The reporting party stated the man in suspicion left the scene with a black bag containing 12-gauge shotgun shells.

While at the abandoned residence, Calexico Police Department Officer Francisco Soberanes and CPD Reserve Officer Anthony Torres located a male subject, later identified as Aispuro, coming out of the boat. At the time, Aispuro was wearing clothing, a camouflage hat and green jacket with a hoodie, that was similar to the clothing that a suspect in one of the VMI burglaries was wearing based on surveillance camera footage.

This led the officers to begin questioning Aispuro on the recent burglaries.

After a search, officers discovered that Aispuro had items with him that belonged to the burglarized business.
