Calexico woman, unidentified man dies in traffic collision.

-

A 23-year-old Calexico woman and an unidentified male driver sustained fatal injuries after being involved in a single-vehicle traffic collision Monday evening while driving eastbound on Interstate 8, announced a California Highway Patrol news release.

The name of both the 23-year-old woman and the male drive was undisclosed and the collision is still under investigation, stated Tuesday’s news release.

The woman, who was riding passenger, and the male driver were the only occupants on the vehicle, a maroon 2015 Nissan Altima, and succumbed to blunt force trauma injuries sustained during the collision.

According to the news release, the vehicle was traveling eastbound on I-8 and, for an undetermined reason, impacted with the guard rail on Boulder Creek Bridge, located west of eastbound I-8.

The driver then lost control of the Altima and continued across eastbound lanes when it impacted with mountainous terrain on the right dirt shoulder of I-8.

The woman and male driver were then trapped inside the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries.

At approximately 6:50 p.m. Monday, CHP dispatch advised an officer of the collision, which occurred on eastbound I-8 east of InKoPah Park Road. Upon the CHP officer’s arrival, the Altima was on the right shoulder of eastbound I-8 on its roof with visible signs of front end collision damage, stated the news release.

“Be sure to wear your safety belts and, if tired while driving, pull over and get some rest before continuing down the road. Many of these fatal collisions can be prevented,” advised CHP El Centro Area Public Information Officer Javier Amezcua.
