What a time to be alive

- BY LIZBETH MEZA Meza

Ihave always believed and been a huge advocate for the arts and the creative process. It brings me a tremendous amount of joy that the women of the entertainment industry have risen up and given a voice and a platform to the injustices of the world that women have a daily struggle with.

The Time’sUp movement has been an inspiration to me and I hope for many women as well to not be afraid to speak their truth in order to grab their power back.

Every time I hear women who I have admired for years like Emma Watson and Meryl Streep, even the ever-powerful Oprah, talk about the power that women hold and have repressed in fear that they would not be taken seriously, or of speaking out against a person who holds a higher position of power against them, sends chills down my spine and makes me glad to be alive in an era where women stand up to empower other women.

I have always feared that my work would not be valued in the same category as men.

I admire the groups of women who are fighting not only for the injustices of the entertainment industry and the horrible truth behind Hollywood’s shiny curtain, but also speak about the struggles of sexual harassment, pay disparity, and discrimination in every form.

“TIME’S UP is a unified call for change from women in entertainment for women everywhere,” Time’s Up’s website said. “From movie sets to farm fields to boardrooms alike, we envision nationwide leadership that reflects the world in which we live.”

As a child I never could have envisioned a future quite like this.

As kids we were running around imagining shuttle cars and floating skateboards and what we got was way cooler than any flying car can give me.

I have an inspiring time where the women of my generation who hold larger-than-life platforms are fighting for my right to be in the same conversation as men and given the same interest and rights.
