FLOYD DARRELL RAMEY

Floyd Darrell Ramey, 86, of Brawley went home to be with the Lord on February 5, 2018.

Darrell was born in Ontario, California on August 31, 1931, moving with his family to Brawley in 1941. He attended Ruth Reid, Barbara Worth Jr. High and graduated from Brawley Union High School in 1949. He married the love and light of his life, Joyce Hamilton, in May of 1952. While in high school he started working for Harris Frozen Foods as a meat cutter. In 1972 Darrell purchased the business which is now known as Ramey’s Meats.

Darrell gave his time and support to many organizati­ons throughout the years. When his sons were young, he participat­ed in Boy Scouts, wrestling and swim team.

He also spent many years, along with his wife, supporting the Soroptimis­t Club of Brawley. Over the years he cooked hundreds of turkeys for their annual turkey dinner. Darrell was especially fond of silhouette shooting and was one of the original members of the Imperial Valley Rifle and Pistol Associatio­n. He spent many hours shooting with family and friends at the silhouette range that bears his name. Darrell won many championsh­ips over the years and was especially proud of winning the title of High Super Senior at the NRA National Championsh­ips held in Los Angeles, CA. He could regularly be found at the range with his longtime friend Kip Smith, attending his last match in January. He also enjoyed spending Sundays with his church family at the Brawley First Christian church and was a faithful member for 75 years. He was an inspiratio­n to all and loved by many especially his family. His memories will always live on.

Visitation will be held on March 2, 2018 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Frye Chapel and Mortuary in Brawley. Services will be held at Frye Chapel and Mortuary in Brawley on March 3, 2018 commencing at 9 a.m. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery also in Brawley.

Darrell is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Patti Ramey; grandchild­ren, Lauren, Michael and Kipp Ramey; sisters, Mary Ann Floyd, Barbara Ramey; in-laws, Mel and Joan Maness, Ham and Tammie Hamilton, Jim and Fernanda Hamilton, Jess and Erika Hamilton; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Ramey; son, Darrell L. Ramey; his parents, Floyd and Irene Ramey; brothers, Robert and Richard Ramey and sister, Diane Erwin.

Darrell loved his entire family, especially his grandchild­ren, and was always grateful for their love and support. He will be missed by all who knew him. God be with you until we meet again.
