Mary Branz, 91, a long time Calexico resident who moved to Boulevard, CA in 1998 passed away in San Diego County, on Monday February 12, 2018.

Mary was born on August 18, 1926, in San Diego, CA to Calexico Pioneers John G. and Doris Carroll. She attended school in Calexico graduating from Calexico High School in 1944. She attended Mount Saint Mary’s College in Los Angeles, graduating in 1948.

After graduation she returned to Imperial Valley and began work as a social worker with the County of Imperial. She married A. J. Branz in Calexico, on January 5, 1952. They moved to Los Angeles and lived there briefly before returning to Calexico where they lived continuous­ly until 1998.

After returning to Imperial Valley, Mary changed careers and began volunteeri­ng as a physical education instructor at Our Lady of Guadalupe Academy, in Calexico before being hired as the physical education instructor at Vincent Memorial High School. She worked as a physical education teacher and sports coach at VMH for 35 years, retiring in 1995.

Mary was proceeded in death by her parents, John G. and Doris Carroll; husband, A.J. Branz and son Alan (Butch) Branz.

Mary is survived by her daughters and son in laws, Marianne and Robert Menvielle, El Centro and Kathleen and Juancarlos Cordero, El Cajon. Granddaugh­ter Ashley Menvielle Gibson and her husband Ken Gibson, Socorro, NM, granddaugh­ter Kathryn Cordero, El Cajon and grandson Jon Cordero, El Cajon. Brother, Father George A. Carroll, S.J., Boulevard, cousin Donna Voegeli, Los Angeles and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Saturday March 3, 2018, at Our lady of Guadalupe Church in Calexico. Rosary will be at 8:30 am followed by funeral mass at 9:00 am. Interment will follow, at Mt. View Cemetery. A reception and celebratio­n of life will be held at Vincent Memorial High School Gymnasium following the services.

The family suggest memorials be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or Vincent Memorial High School.
